My personal connection to Threadneedle Street has inspired my thoughts on the importance of connections in our lives. The concept of threads and connections can be found in various aspects of our existence, both metaphorically and literally.
Thread Needle Street, with its historical significance and the presence of the Bank of England, holds an impressive amount of gold in its vaults. The etymology of the street's name suggests multiple origins, including a signboard portraying three needles or the association with needle-makers who had premises on the street. The connection to the Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors, whose hall has been located on Threadneedle Street since 1347, is another possibility. These historical threads create a sense of continuity and interconnectedness with the past.
In my personal experience, I found a meaningful connection to my cousin Lynne while standing on Threadneedle Street. During a difficult time when I needed support, Lynne helped me stitch myself back together, metaphorically speaking. This memory has stayed with me, highlighting the significance of connections in our lives. Threading worlds, or making connections, is easier today than in the past,( the advancements in technology and communication.)
I believe synchronicity plays a role in our lives, as we often encounter events or experiences that seem to align with our thoughts or desires. The connection that happened to me, bumping into my twin sister in the National Portrait Gallery on the same day I stood on Threadneedle Street has had a profound impact on me, unraveling my mindset, initiating a new direction.
My art process, characterized by threads and lines, reflects my fascination with connections. Through blind line drawing and allowing my hand to move freely, I explore the excitement and freedom that comes from creating art without preconceived notions. This process of following the thread and finding the image that resonates with me is a metaphor for life's beginnings and the potential they hold.
My blog is another beginning, a way for me to share my thoughts and experiences with others. By embracing the idea of connections and allowing our minds to be open, we can discover new paths and possibilities.
